Blogger & Netfirms: Broken Pipe 001
Since April 2005, an incompatibility has caused publishing issues for Blogger users who host their own blogs via Netfirms (a Canadian hosting provider). I love Blogger, and I love Netfirms. However, I also love to blog. Absence makes the heart grow fonder, as they say, and I have sorely missed the ability to comment on the daily exchange of life events in the Thomas household.
After trying to resolve the issue first through Blogger, and then through Netfirms, and then again through both parties, I have changed hosting providers to regain control over my blogging activity. Momstrade.com, as well as Trade Du Jour, is now officially hosted through GoDaddy.com. Some might ask why I would give up Netfirms over Blogger, considering Blogger still lacks some of the perks that are offerd through MovableType and WordPress. Or, why choose Blogger over my own php driven blog? The mobile features of Blogger in combination with Picassa's Hello are far to fun to live without! Armed with a Treo 650, I can't see a more efficient way to keep my blog up to date!
For any who would follow suit, the settings can remain exactly the same in your blogger configuration, except that the ftp path would change from www.yourdomain.com to ftp.yourdomain.com. Also, make sure you transfer any folders to your new server for the correct path. GoDaddy does not separate directories with www, so your new path to publish to a folder in your main directory would simply be "foldername/" instead of www/foldername/
